The Sellmer Story

The World's First Printed
Advent Calendar

In 1945, amidst the rubble of post-war Stuttgart, Richard Sellmer began printing advent calendars to bring joy back into the lives of German families. Each calendar featured tiny doors that opened to reveal hand-illustrated Christmas scenes — a simple idea that became a beloved tradition worldwide.

Today, nearly 80 years later, the Sellmer family continues the tradition with over 130 designs — each printed with the same care and craftsmanship that defined the very first calendar.
